We at HITS would like to congratulate Deanna Brown on having been tapped to lead the Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Media Group.
No, really.
It’s a big gig, even if it means becoming the new target for everything that’s wrong with the Bible. As the latest non-music person to be tasked with running the ship, Brown will have to figure out why her charts and covers are becoming ever more meaningless while the publication falls ever further into its clickbait hole. Trying to be all things to all people, it’s now straddling music culture and TMZ. Insiders give Brown about two years while nobody in the music world knows or cares who she is; word has it she’s going to clean house of the old guard. Look for the Bible comedy to continue.
We wish her luck—people think she’s smart and well-organized, with a low threshold for bullshit. She’ll certainly be a huge improvement over the ego-driven era of John Amato, but that’s not exactly a high bar.
