SMP U.K. RENEWS DEAL WITH GORGON CITY, LAUNCHES REALM
5/23/24

SMP U.K. has renewed its exclusive global pub deal with Gorgon City. Additionally, the electronic/dance music duo have launched REALM Publishing in partnership with SMP; Riordan serves as the first signing.

Consisting of Kye Gibbon and Matt Robson Scott, Gorgon City have amassed 1.7b+ global streams and 13 BRIT-certified singles throughout their career, including hits like “Voodoo,” "You’ve Done Enough," “Nobody” and more.

The pair recently announced their fifth album, Reverie, due 7/19, along with the project’s lead singles “Biggest Regret” f/Bbyafricka and “All That You Need” f/Caroline Byrne. They’re also slated to perform multiple summer dates, including a residency at LIV Las Vegas, plus shows at N.Y.’s Brooklyn Mirage, L.A.’s Shrine and Ushuaia in Ibiza.

Meanwhile, rising U.K. producer/DJ Riordan is buzzing in the electronic world with his techno house hit, “Needle on the Record,” which recently reached #1 on Beatport.

“We're so happy to be extending our partnership with SMP and signing Riordan as the first artist to our brand-new publishing company REALM. It's the start of an exciting new chapter for us and we can't wait to get started,” said the duo.

“I’m so excited to be signing my first publishing deal with REALM and Sony,” added Riordan. “Gorgon City have been my biggest supporters and mentors in these early stages of my career and it feels great to grow and continue that relationship together.”

“We are thrilled to extend our long-standing relationship with Gorgon City, and the trust they have placed in us to partner as they launch their REALM publishing company. Gorgon City are skilled at spotting talent early, they are on the ground hearing things first and hands-on in developing artists and songwriters,” shared Senior A&R Manager, U.K., SMP, Adrienne Bookbinder.

WCM INKS TOBY DAINTREE
5/23/24

Warner Chappell Music has inked a global publishing deal with songwriter/producer Toby Daintree.

Having worked with the likes of Devin Workman, FKA Twigs, Jesse Fink, Joy Crookes, Matilda Mann, Two Inch Punch and more, the multi-instrumentalist recently made a name for himself as Artemas’ main collaborator, co-writing and co-producing his #1 hit “i like the way you kiss me,” viral single “if you think I’m pretty” and his mixtape pretty.

Since its March release, “i like the way you kiss me” has amassing 400m+ streams and topped Spotify’s global chart for three weeks. The track hit #1 in Austria, Switzerland and Germany, #3 in Australia, Denmark and the U.K. plus more.

Through this new partnership, Daintree—managed by Virgo Management’s Fin Kemp—will work closely with WCM U.K.’s managing director, Shani Gonzales, and head of A&R, Amber Davis.

“Toby is a world-class songwriter and producer. His recent hits have showcased he can write songs that connect with a global audience, and we want to help replicate this success by partnering him with the world’s biggest artists and writers,” said WCM U.K. A&R Manager George Baker.

“I’m looking forward to working with George and the wider Warner Chappell team who have shown a passionate interest and understanding in the music I’ve been a part of and I'm excited to see what opportunities and new relationships come from the partnership,” added Daintree.

WCM'S PRESS LAUNCHES PHILLY SONGWRITING CAMP
5/23/24

Warner Chappell North America president Ryan Press (pictured) will co-host Message in the Music, a new songwriting camp taking place 5/28-6/1 in Philadelphia. The event is a joint partnership of Warner Chappell Music, Live Nation Urban and The Roots, who are hosting their annual Roots Picnic festival in town during the same weekend.

The camp's name is derived from “Message in Our Music,” a 1976 O’Jays hit written and produced by Philly Soul masterminds Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. The first edition will pay tribute to Gamble, Huff and their brilliant contemporary Thom Bell, all of whom are represented by WCM, as well as current Philadelphia songwriters.

Joining Press as co-hosts are Roots members Questlove and Black Thought, writer/producer Pop Wansel (Mary J. Blige, Lizzo) and Shawn Gee of Live Nation Urban.

“Philly Soul will always be the heartbeat and defining sound of Philadelphia, and my hope is for this camp to support the city that raised me and helped launch my own career by investing in its current and emerging talent,” Press said. “My partners and I believe there is a message in the music, and we believe that the message is love,” Gamble added.

WCM is expecting more than 50 musicians to participate in the camp. Some songs from the catalogs of Gamble, Huff and Bell will be available for sampling and interpolation by other artists via WCM’s Beat Broker platform.

Meanwhile, the Roots Picnic takes over Philly’s Mann in Fairmount Park 6/1-2 and will be headlined by Jill Scott, Nas, André 3000, Gunna and Lil Wayne backed by the Roots.

The Philly Phanatic declined to comment.
