HIPGNOSIS PROVIDES ONE DIRECTION FOR JAMIE SCOTT

Hipgnosis Songs has acquired 100% of top British songwriter and producer Jamie Scott’s interest in his catalog of 144 songs, which includes hits for a string of pop acts including Major Lazer, Rag’n’Bone Man, Rudimental and One Direction.

Songs in Scott's catalog include “Cold Water” by Major Lazer f/Justin Bieber and the platinum certified “Skin” by Rag’n’Bone Man. Most notably, Scott's catalog includes co-writes on 29 songs for One Direction, including the U.K. #1 and U.S. Top 10 “Drag Me Down” and “Story of My Life.” He also co-wrote two singles for Niall Horan’s debut album Flicker, including “This Town,” which reached #9 in the U.K., and “Too Much To Ask.”

He has also co-written songs released by Keith Urban, Callum Scott, Tom Odell, Birdy, Nelly Furtado, Michael Kiwanuka, 5 Seconds Of Summer, The Vamps, Little Mix, Olly Murs, Ella Henderson, Jessie Ware and Christina Perri.

Overall, Scott has been responsible for 84 #1, 188 Top 5 and 247 Top 10 Chart positions globally. As a writer and producer, he claims 10 U.K. #1 albums, four U.S. #1 albums and four U.K. #1 singles. These are estimated to have sold 75m albums and 75m singles globally in addition to being streamed more than 7b times on Spotify. The deal with Hipgnosis includes all BMI and PRS income.

Scott’s latest released song, “These Days” by Rudimental f/Jess Glynne, Macklemore and Dan Caplen, reached #1 in the U.K. and has been nominated for a 2019 Ivor Novello award for Most Performed Work.

“Jamie Scott has been the U.K.’s most consistent hitmaker of the last 10 years,” Merck Mercuriadis, Founder of The Family (Music) Limited and Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited, said. “Jamie never fails to deliver.”

Scott’ds manager Richard Wilson said: “Merck is at the forefront of valuing what songwriters do for the music business, and realises that without them, we would not have one.”
