IVORS WINNERS ANOUNCED

The Ivors Academy honored the best of the U.K.’s songwriting and composing community today with a radio broadcast of The Ivors 2020 winners. Little Simz, Dave (pictured) and Fraser T Smith were among honorees.

Universal Music Publishing, Warner Chappell Music and Kobalt had two winning entries each.

Little Simz and Inflo won Best Album for Grey Area (UMPG); Best Contemporary Song went to Dave and Fraser T Smith for “Black” (Warner Chappell/Kobalt). Jamie Cullum collected his first Ivor for “Age of Anxiety” (Sentric) in the Best Song Musically and Lyrically category.

“Giant” (EMI/Reservoir Reverb/Warner Chappell/Bucks Music Group), performed and written by Calvin Harris and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, with co-writing by Jamie Hartman and Troy Miller, was awarded the PRS for Music Most Performed Work of 2019.

Songwriter and artist Mysie won the first Rising Star Award with Apple Music, and Songwriter of the Year went to Steve Mac (Mabel, Ed Sheeran, Westlife and Jax Jones).

An Academy Fellowship, which recognizes excellence and impact in the art and craft of music creation, was awarded to Joan Armatrading MBE in recognition of her achievements in music.

The 65th edition of the awards was due to take place in May. Instead, winners were revealed by Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1 Radio.

Other winners were Bobby Krlic, Midsommar, (A24 Music/Kobalt) for original film score; Draugen by Simon Poole for original video game score; and Euphoria by Labrinth (Universal Music Publishing) for television soundtrack.
