UTA'S MEYER ON MGK'S TICKETS, HALSEY'S "MOMENT"

UTA agent Matt Meyer, who reps Machine Gun Kelly, Halsey, YUNGBLUD and Tinashe, spoke with Pollstar about navigating a post-lockdown touring world.

On the heels of MGK's breakthrough rock album, Tickets to my Downfall (which was recently certified platinum), Meyer lined up arenas, amphitheaters and plum festival slots for the star's sold-out national tour.

Regarding being one of the first artists to announce a tour post-lockdown, Meyer explained: “When we found a window, he was first up, first out and sold a quarter-million tickets in one minute; it was insane. We were doing the Shrine parking lot and he sold 8,000 tickets on the announce, we flexed up prices and called Goldenvoice and added a Greek Theater, so he did 15,000 tickets in Los Angeles in less than 48 hours.”

On Halsey's Moment House livestream, timed with the drop of her acclaimed new album, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, Meyer hailed the artist and her team "for putting together a unique way for fans to see a show around her motherhood and COVID-19... The show was top-notch, as with anything Halsey does, and fans were ecstatic to see songs from her new album performed for the first time.”

On the UTA team: “The team for someone like [Tinashe] is insanely phenomenal. Melissa Newhart (Music Brand Partnerships Executive), I think she’s brought in a dozen brand deals. [With] Newhart and Riley Folsom (agent in Talent/Music Crossover), every day I’m getting a voice-over opportunity, I’m getting a brand opportunity, I’m getting an on-camera opportunity... I’ve never had that before. That energy is how I feel my clients are able to cut through the noise, because it’s very organic to them.”
