DREXLER, ROSALÍA WIN BIG AT LATIN GRAMMYS

Sony’s Jorge Drexler swept Record and Song of the Year at the 23rd Latin Grammys, which took place 11/17 in Las Vegas, with “Tocarte,” his collaboration with previous AOTY winner C. Tangana. The Uruguayan singer-songwriter, who previously won an Academy Award for his song from The Motorcycle Diaries, led the field with seven wins.

Columbia’s ROSALÍA won her second Album of the Year trophy for MOTOMAMI. Her four wins at the Latin Grammys included AOTY, Best Alternative Music Album, Best Recording Package and Best Engineered Album. The Catalonian superstar also performed a medley of tracks from her critically acclaimed album on the broadcast.

The absent Bad Bunny (he has a stadium run this week in Colombia) earned five trophies total, although the Rimas superstar was winless in the major categories despite being nominated in the Big 3. Un Verano Sin Ti’s lone win was for Best Urban Music Album, while “Titi Me Pregunto” got a pair, for Best Urban Song and Best Urban Fusion Performance.

Other notable winners included UMLE’s Sebastian Yatra, who took home trophies for Best Pop Vocal Album with Dharma and Best Pop Song with “Tacones Rojos” in a tie with Jorge Drexler’s “La Guerrilla De La Concordia”; Christina Aguilera, whose Aguilera won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album; and NEON16’s Tainy, who scored his first artist win for the oddly titled “Lo Siento BB:/” f/Bad Bunny & Julieta Venegas.

The show was hosted by Luis Fonsi, Laura Pausini, Thalia and Anitta, who opened the night with a joint performance.
