TIKTOK'S SUMMER SCORCHERS

Mae Stephens' “If We Ever Broke Up” and Jain's “Makeba” top TikTok’s inaugural Songs of Summer. Stephens grabs the global title; Jain is #1 in the U.S.

“If We Ever Broke Up,” issued by EMI in the U.K., was Stephens' first release this year and only the third song she's ever put out. “Mae Stephens is a fantastic new artist with an amazing success story whose music has traveled from the U.K. to Asia and beyond; her track 'If We Ever Broke Up' is a global phenomenon,” said Paul Hourican, global head of Music Content & Partnerships at TikTok.

Jain’s French-language hit “Makeba,” released in 2016, had a resurgence this year thanks to influencer @Sierrakai.1 and a meme of Bill Hader dancing in a box. It's been used in more than 5 million TikTok creations.

Besides Jain, TDE’s Doechii is the only other act to make the Top 10 on both charts.
